It seems that many Korean girl groups who have just made their comeback around this few months wore one-piece costumes ‘by coincidence’ and performed on stage. Peoples made fun of these ‘all-in-one apparels’ were like sportswears when doing aerobix exercises.
If you really pay attention to clothing, you’ll notice during the Hoot, Yayaya and Jumping performances by SNSD, T-ara and Kara, they were all wearing one-piece costumes. But why? Is that the new trends in costumes?
In fact, the reason why girl groups are now gradually losing their unique personalities through their styling and chose such costumes are mainly due to the latest regulation of TV programs. Since the Korea Broadcasting and Communications Committee issued every music programs an advice, that ‘pay attention and please do not be too sexual on styling ‘ in August 2010, all the female musicians and girl groups were forbidden to expose their chests as well as navels, causing the current situation.
Kara first promoted their song Jumping in Japan and they did not know about the new regulation. Their company produced another style of costumes in a very short time which can be used in Korea so the girls’ styling can be approved and go on promote in Korea due to Kara had just been informed the new costume rules right before few days they came back to Korea. Also, T-ara’s styling for Yayaya were being criticized because their costumes were too tights. For this, T-ara expressed their feelings, ‘We chose one-piece costume after some thoughts, because it can helps cover our navels so we would not be violating the rules. ‘
Curiously, most of the industry stakeholders complained, ‘Those one-piece costumes seem even more sensational!‘ and a girl group’s agency said, ‘We forced to chose one-piece costume because of the rules, unexpectedly one-piece costume helps to show the sexy figure and curve of bodies. Instead, that’s why those stakeholders feel one-piece costume was more exposed than before. ‘
You can see all members from SNSD, T-ara and Kara were wearing one-piece costumes in most of their live performances.
What do you think about this rules decided by the committee? Is it true that one-piece costume is better than two-piece costume? Or did the Korean girl groups really lost their distinguishing features because of the rules?
